Since their discovery, the medical texts on bamboo slips and silk manuscripts excavated from the Mawangdui Han Tombs have garnered significant attention from the fields of traditional Chinese medicine and archaeology at home and abroad. They are believed to predate the foundational TCM classic, Huang Di Nei Jing (Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor), and are regarded as some of China’s earliest medical literature.Among them, Yang Sheng Fang is a treatise on health preservation theory that was the first to record concepts of Heaven-Earth interplay, Yin-Yang balance, and the vital forces of Jing (essence), Qi (vital energy) and Shen (spirit), and is one of the oldest extant specialized works on health preservation in the world.
Around 1972, archaeologists excavated a series of cultural relics from Mawangdui Han Tombs, and Yang Sheng Fang is one of them.
Since then, Li Congfu, Liu Bingfan and Ouyang Qi, renowned TCM experts from Hunan, devoted more than a decade to the study and application of the millennia-old medical manuscript and ultimately brought about its revival.
At first, the preparation being devloped was named "Jing Qi Shen Sanbao Ye" (Three Treasures of Essence-Qi-Vitality Liquid) in light of its functions and properties, which is the predecessor of Guhan Nourishing Essence products.
In 1986, Shen Jiaqiu, then director of Hengyang Traditional Chinese Medicine Factory (now Guhan Traditional Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd.), obtained the exclusive rights to "Three Treasures of Jing-Qi-Shen Liquid". Under his leadership, the company's technical team engaged in relentless research and overcame numerous challenges. By the end of the year, Guhan Nourishing Oral Liquid was developed successfully and put into mass production.
In 1997, the company developed Guhan Nourishing Tablets based on the oral liquid, which are sugar-free and easy to carry.
